Bank reconciliation

Drive the difference to zero.

adorabl's automated bank reconciliation software will import your bank and card activity, suggest matches, and leave only the exceptions for you to clear, until your books tie to the bank.

Stop reconciling from a download.

When your bank activity sits in a downloaded spreadsheet and your matches live in your head, month-end turns into archaeology. With automated bank reconciliation, adorabl will put your balances and the work left to do on one screen.

A summary that explains the gap

Your books balance, bank balance, and the difference between them will show what still needs clearing, including deposits that haven't landed yet.

Three tabs for the work left

Needs a decision will hold confident suggestions, Exceptions will hold lines to investigate, and Auto-matched will hold lines to review. You can confirm a whole tab at once.

Rules that remember your merchants

Confirm and memorize a match, and adorabl will save that merchant's account, so recurring charges won't ask again on every import.

From connected account to tied books.

Map your accounts first. adorabl's transaction matching will then hand you suggestions to confirm from top to bottom, followed by the exceptions, until your books and bank agree.

  1. 01

    Connect and map accounts

Link checking, savings, and credit cards, then map each one one-to-one to an asset or liability account in your general ledger. Reconciliation starts once each account is mapped.

  2. 02

    Check the difference

Compare your books to your bank. If the difference isn't zero, adorabl will break it into what's in the bank but not your books, what's in your books but not the bank, deposits in transit, and anything unexplained.

  3. 03

    Work through the suggestions

Confirm each suggestion, confirm and memorize a rule for that merchant, reject it to Exceptions, or override it to a different account. When the tab is ready, confirm it all at once.

  4. 04

    Clear the exceptions

Handle unclear matches, duplicates, and lines that don't belong. Categorize them, match them to an open bill or payment, or exclude anything that isn't business activity.

Confirm, memorize, reject, or override.

Each suggestion gets one of four actions. Memorized rules are where bank reconciliation automation pays off: confirm a merchant once, and future imports from it will reconcile on their own.

Confirm

Accept the suggestion and reconcile the line.

Confirm and memorize

Confirm the line and save a rule for that merchant, so future imports from it will reconcile on their own.

Reject

Send the line to Exceptions for manual handling.

Override

Choose a different general ledger account for the line.

What makes up the gapIn the bank but not your books, in your books but not the bank, deposits in transit, and unexplained

Connected accounts can't enter the reconciliation queue until they're mapped, so map each one to its ledger account first.

Shortcuts built for the queue.

Reconciliation goes fastest from the keyboard: work through Needs a decision from top to bottom, then switch to Exceptions.

  • Press 1, 2, or 3, or use the arrow keys, to switch between Needs a decision, Exceptions, and Auto-matched.
  • Press Enter to confirm a suggestion, or Shift+Enter to confirm it and memorize the rule.
  • Click the question mark in the queue header to see each shortcut.

Credit card reconciliation, memorized rules, and cash flow.

Your cards, rules, and cash flow view will sit next to your bank accounts in one place.

Credit cards use the same queue

adorabl's credit card reconciliation software uses the same queue as your bank accounts. Corporate cards and other liability accounts will get suggestions suited to them, with no separate mode to learn.

Rules that apply across your organization

Each rule will link part of a merchant's name to a general ledger account. Edit or delete any rule that sorts a recurring supplier into the wrong account.

Unreconcile when needed

You can review auto-matched lines and unreconcile any that are wrong, and they'll go back to the open queue.

Cash flow stays connected

Your connected balances will feed your cash on hand and your 30-, 60-, and 90-day cash flow projection.

Example · Trail Ridge Outfitters

Trail Ridge's operating account gets to a $0 difference.

  1. 1. Check the difference

The account starts $1,240 off: $980 is in the bank but not the books, and $260 is a payroll transfer still in transit.

  2. 2. Decide

Trail Ridge confirms three Shopify payouts, each already tied to its orders through settlement reconciliation, and overrides one line to marketplace fees.

  3. 3. Clear the exceptions

A software subscription charge matches its open bill, and the duplicate gets excluded. The difference is $0.00.

Trail Ridge's company card runs through the same queue against its liability account, with a statement summary when the bank provides one.

Bank reconciliation questions, answered.

What is bank reconciliation?

Bank reconciliation is the process of matching the cash balance in your books to your bank statement and explaining every difference until the two agree. adorabl will import your bank activity, suggest matches, and leave only the exceptions for you to clear, so your books will tie to the bank each month.

Can bank reconciliation be automated?

Yes, for most lines. Automated bank reconciliation software imports bank transactions, suggests matches to entries in your books, and leaves only the exceptions for a person to review. In adorabl, memorized rules will reconcile recurring charges on their own, and you'll confirm the rest in batches, so your time will go to the few lines that need judgment.

How do I connect my bank accounts?

Add a bank account in adorabl, choose how much history to import (from 30 days to 24 months), and complete the secure bank login. Then map each one to its account in your general ledger. Reconciliation can start once each connected account is mapped.

Can I reconcile credit cards the same way?

Yes. Credit card reconciliation matches each card charge to an expense in your books so the balance on your card statement and in your ledger agree. In adorabl, your corporate cards will use the same queue as your bank accounts, with suggestions suited to card accounts and the same memorized rules.

How do I reconcile Shopify payouts and Amazon settlements?

Use settlement reconciliation, which matches each marketplace payout to the orders, fees, refunds, and adjustments behind it. adorabl will handle marketplace settlement reconciliation for Shopify and Amazon, using a clearing account that holds sales, fees, and refunds until the payout arrives, so each net deposit will tie back to its gross sales.

Why don't my books match my bank balance?

Most gaps come from timing, missing entries, or duplicates. Some deposits are in transit, some bank charges never made it into your books, and some lines got entered twice. adorabl will break the difference into those buckets: in the bank but not your books, in your books but not the bank, deposits in transit, and unexplained.

What are deposits in transit?

Deposits in transit are payments recorded in your books that haven't reached the bank yet, such as a payout that lands the next business day. They're normal and clear once the money arrives. adorabl will show them as their own part of the difference, so you won't chase a gap that will close tomorrow.
